Gordon A Wiley was the younger and favourite brother of my Grandmorther, Della Wiley Cullen. In 1912, she named her first son  after her brother. Gordon. I never knew my great uncle. He served in the Canadian Army Medical Corps at the 3rd Stationary Hospital in France. He lost his life  as a result of an air raid on the hospital on May 30, 1918. The funeral notice which I have reports he was aged 23 years. I'm priviledged to have letters which he wrote to my grandmother from "somewhere in France"., as well as correspondence from  Lt Col Reason of the CAMC to my great grandmother offering condolences. But I think the most beautiful letter of sympathy written to my great grandmorther, came from his best friend and comrade, Ed Penny. In this letter I learned that my great uncle loved art and had the soul of an artist. I loved to learn this and believe that I must have inherited my love of art from great Uncle Gordon. Every year on November 11, I take the precious correspondence out of a memory box and read the letters, always with tears in my eyes.
