Corporal Albert Edward Harlock, S/6600, "B" Coy, 1st Bn., Rifle Brigade Died 2nd September 1918, aged 27, Buried at Eterpigny British Cemetery, Pays de Calais, near Arras, France Son of Thomas Dudley Harlock & Charlotte Harlock of 8 Lavender Road, Enfield, Middlesex Albert Harlock was a ship's steward before The Great War and sailed round the world. His mother became distraught and tried to kill herself by cutting her throat upon receiving news of his death, and never really recovered thereafter, wearing high-necked blouses to hide her scars. My grandfather Charles, before he died, visited a military museum in Winchester in the 1980's with his wife Ethel, my grandmother. They found Albert's name on the page displayed in the Book of Remembrance, under lock and key in a glass cabinet. Upon further enquiry, they found that the pages were turned daily and so could not believe the coincidence - and felt their visit was destined to bring the brothers closer together again.
