I do not know this Robert Hardy but my grandfather was also named Robert Hardy from Northumberland. He fought in WW1, was shot but thankfully survived. I was only 7 when he died so know nothing more about his experiences. Although I was young when he died I still have a few happy memories of time spent with him. Now much older I wish I knew more but there is no one left to tell me. That generation and the next have passed. Every year I buy my poppy for him and his comrades that did not return. Tell the younger members of the family why and why they also must never forget. I wanted to be part of every man remembered and could have just chosen randomly but decided to search his name Robert Hardy knowing I would not find my grandfather but found another Robert Hardy. A Robert who did not come home. Perhaps they were distantly related, perhaps they served together? Now They are both remembered.
