In loving memory of Private James Ogden Northumberland Fusiliers, Dearly beloved son of William and Elizabeth Jane Ogden, of 16 Union Street Seaham Harbour, Who died of wounds received in action April 12th 1918, Aged 26 years.

Murton Colliery War Memorial: WE 27.1.22.
In stormy weather on Saturday afternoon the War Memorial was unveiled at the village park east to the memory of the men of Murton who fell in the late war. The memorial has been placed in the centre of the park, is of grey granite and is over 12 feet in height. It has been erected by the workmen and officials of Murton Colliery. After a special prayer by the vicar, Rev, G.W. Anson-Firth MA ex Sergeant William McNally VC MM unveiled the memorial. The members of Murton Colliery Band sounded the Last Post. Addresses were given by Mr G. Raw (Agent to the South Hetton Coal Company) and Mr W.E. Bell (Secretary of Murton branch of the British Legion). Many beautiful wreaths were placed at the foot of the Cenotaph. SWN
