Henry was born in 1892, the second son of Henry Wilson and his first wife Ann. She sadly died when Henry was only 8 years old. Henry's father subsequently remarried and had 3 more children with his second wife Fanny. The blended family lived together at Carlton on Trent in Nottinghamshire, where Henry farmed as had his father John before him.
By 1911 both Henry and his brother John were working on the family farm. After war broke out, Henry volunteered to serve, joining the 20th Labour Battalion of the Sherwood Foresters (Notts and Derby Regiment). Following two and a half years' service, Henry sadly died of influenza on 8th November 1918 aged 26 years, just three days before the Armistice. He is buried at Les Baraques Military Cemetery at Sangatte on the western side of Calais, maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
Henry is remembered on the Roll of Honour inside St Laurence's Church, Norwell, Nottinghamshire, and also on the village war memorial and on the memorial board inside the village hall. His name also appears on the memorial tablet to the fallen men of Carlton on Trent, inside the parish church of St Mary the Virgin.
