Born 3 May 1885 - at Canvastown, Marlborough Region, South Island, New Zealand.
William was the son of William & Annie Dalton - of Canvastown.
Prior to enlistment for war service William Dalton was employed as a Farmer - at Canvastown.
William Dalton enlisted for war service - on 13 August 1914 - at Nelson. He was 29 years of age.
At enlistment William Dalton was posted as a Trooper with the Canterbury Mounted Rifles Brigade, 10th Nelson Squadron, Main Body, NZEF.
On 16 October 1914 Trooper Dalton left New Zealand for overseas war service - with the Main Body NZEF - aboard HMNZ Transport Ship either T4 'Tahiti' or T11 'Athenic" - from the Port of Wellington, North Island, New Zealand.
On 3 December 1914 Trooper Dalton disembarked from his transport ship from New Zealand at Alexandria, Egypt.
In late April/early May 1915 Trooper Dalton was sent - from Egypt - to serve with the ANZAC forces at Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey.
Trooper Dalton served at Gallipoli until he was killed in action - on 19 May 1915 - at Walker's Ridge, Gallipoli. He was 30 years of age.
