John Evans, affectionately known as Jack, was the son of William & Charlotte Evans and was born at Kinnert, Canon Pyon in 1892, baptised in Canon Pyon on 30th October 1892. He joined the Herefordshire Regiment at the outbreak of the war and he first entered the conflict at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli on 9th August 1915. He also served in Egypt as well as France. He finally lost his life near Soissons and is buried in the Raperie Military Cemetery, Villemontoire. On the back of his photograph someone unkown has written: Darling Jack, short was thy life my dearest one, but peaceful be thy rest, Your sweet young life you nobly gave, your resting place a soldiers grave. Gone but mot forgotten. We live in hope to meet again some day. thy will be done.
