Sjt Ernest Howlett was not reIated to my family and I found an old photograph (addressed to his mother) of his grave, marked with just a rough cross, when I was clearing my father's house after his death. My father was a collector of photographs and postcards from both wars. I researched Sjt Howlett's name and found he was a gunner from South East London who was shot down and killed by The Red Baron on 17 March 1917 at about 5,00 pm. He was later reburied in a Commonwealth War Grave in France. Although not related we wish to commemorate Ernest Howlett for the sacrifice he made for his Country.
