Remembering my great Uncle who dies of his wounds fighting at Gallipoli. He was a much loved older brother, and there is no one left to ask now. We know so little about him. As children, we were told that he was underage and had run away from home to join up, but we discovered that he was of age and was a regular in the Army. We think there was a massive falling out between him and his dad, my great grandad, as we have his bible which has my great grandad's (next of kin) details obliterated by my great uncle. We'll never know for sure what happened between them, and can only imagine the effect his death must have had on his family in Ashington, Northumberland. My grandad named his eldest son after him. It feels important that we remember him because of what happened back then, and because it will soon be 100 years since he died, and because no matter what he's a part of our family as well as history.
