He died of wounds on the 19 May 1917, aged 36 years, and he is buried in Longuenesse (St Omer) Souvenir Cemetery, France.

 

Charles Gaskell was born at Dukinfield in 1881 and he is the son of Albert Gaskell and Sarah Greaves who were married at Ashton-under-Lyne in 1880. He married Amy Clegg in Chorlton-on-Medlock in 1908. In 1911 he was resident with his wife, Amy, daughter, Hilda, parents and siblings on Haworth Road, Gorton, employed as a collector for a friendly society.
