He was born c1882.In 1911 he was living at 113 Rectory Buildings, Crossfield Street, Deptford with his wife Annie and son Edward aged 18 months and Margarite ages 6 weeks. He is employed as a stevedore at the docks.
He married Annie Catherine O’Connor on 3 August 1908 at St.James, Bermondsey. It states he had 2 children Margaret Annie born 14 February 1911 and a son Thomas George born 4 January 1914. There is no record of son Edward so he must have died after 1911.
He had a brother George who was living at 105 Creek Street, Deptford as was his father. His brother William was serving in the Royal West Kent Regiment.
When he was discharged from the Army on 19th April 1916 due to the expiration of his first period of engagement. It states he was 5ft 6inches tall, had hazel eyes and brown hair and had a fresh complexion. His trade was given as a brewer. He had a clasped hand tattoo on his right forearm.
His military character was good. His character was said to be a good steady sober man who was a stevedore by trade. He had served with the expeditionary force in France and also served in the Mediterranean.
He enlisted 4th October 1901 and originally served in the 3rd Battalion Royal West Regiment. He served in Malta between 6 April 1904 and 27th December 1906. He lost 2 years’ service as he deserted twice, once in 1901 and again in 1902.
He had served in France between 11 November 1914 and29 May 1915. He was then at home until the 23 August 1915 and then in the Mediterranean from 24 August 1915 until 13 April 1916.
On the 29th May 1915 he was ill with pleurisy and pneumonia and was sent home to England.
On 12th April he embarked on the H.T. Huntsend for England from Alexandria.
He was recalled to the army in August 1914 and was taken ill when at Ypres. After recovering in England he was sent to Gallipoli and had dysentery and then sent to Egypt.
