'Percy' joined SHSB in 1906. By the time he left in 1911, he was in Upper 6 and was the Sergeant of Section 4 of the school's Army Cadet Corps. On leaving he is recorded as attending Clerks College, a Business Studies college, but was later apprenticed to Mr Alec Steel of Temple Farm, Prittlewell, before emigrating to Noradjutico in Australia in January 1913 aged 18, to pursue a farming career.     

Edwin Percy Hockey is commemorated on both the Lone Pine Memorial in Turkey, and on the Southend-on-Sea Roll of Honour in Priory Park. He is also commemorated at his school 'Southend High School for Boys' with his name, among others, engraved on a wooden plaque in the main hall.
