I found CSM Kendrick's name in the Chester Town Hall, and thought nothing of it, apart from it matched mine - and he served in the Irish Rifles (this in itself was peculiar as my wife is Irish and I am Welsh). However it was not until we were walking into Chester and stopped by a local graveyard that I found a headstone for Ernest Kendrick, giving his full details. I have no known connection to this man, but feel that I can pay my resects regardless and thank him and the thousands of others who fought for my freedom. I am not the only person to commemorate him, but hopefully others who may be alone at this time will get some form of support.
