He was killed in action on the 31 May 1918, aged 24 years, and he is buried in La Kreule Military Cemetery, Hazebrouck, Nord, France.

 

Fred Grimke Boden was born at Whitefield near Bury, Lancashire, on the 6 June 1893 to William Henry Boden and Annie Holt who were married at St Simon’s Church, Salford, in 1891. In 1911 he was resident with his parents and two sisters on Stamford Terrace, Huddersfield Road, Heyheads, Stalybridge, employed as an apprentice chemist. He married May Howard at Albion United Reformed Church, Stamford Street, Ashton-under-Lyne, in 1916 and his wife was resident on Carlton Road, Smallshaw, Ashton-under-Lyne. They had a son, Fred Sydney Boden, who was born in 1917.
