9507 Private John Haggerty of the 1st Battalion, Cheshire Regiment:

 

He enlisted in the Cheshire Regiment at Hyde, Cheshire, and he was killed in action on the 24 August 1914. He is commemorated on La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial, Seine-et-Marne, France.

 

He was posthumously awarded the 1914 Star (Mons Star) with Bar Clasp, the British War Medal and the British Victory Medal. The Bar Clasp is inscribed ‘5 Aug. to 24 Aug. 1914’ and it was awarded to all those who qualified for the 1914 Star and who had served under fire.

 

John Haggerty was born at Stalybridge, Cheshire.
