He died on the 11 June 1918, aged 36 years, and he is buried in Amara War Cemetery, Iraq.
Willie Macer was born at Castle Donington, Leicestershire, in 1882 to James Macer and Kate Sheffield who were married in the Shardlow Registration District of Derbyshire, in 1878. In 1911 he was resident with his widowed mother, brother Fred (30) and sister Fanny (25), on Huddersfield Road, Stalybridge, Cheshire, employed as a ring spinning overlooker at a cotton mill.
