10767 Private Lewis Heywood of the 2nd Battalion, Cheshire Regiment:

 

He entered the Theatre of War on the 20 May 1915 and he was killed in action on the 3 October 1915, aged 31 years. He is commemorated on the Loos Memorial, Pas de Calais, France.

 

Lewis Heywood was born at Stalybridge, Cheshire, in 1885 to John Edward Heywood and Emma Brayshaw who were married at St Chad’s Church, Saddleworth, Yorkshire, in 1878. He married Elizabeth Smith at St James’s Church, Millbrook, Stalybridge, in 1905. In 1911 he was resident with his wife and son, Arthur (2), on Huddersfield Road, Millbrook, Stalybridge, employed as a mule spinner at a cotton mill. Later his widow was resident on Fitzroy Street, Millbrook, Stalybridge.
