Son of Henry William and Caroline Pauley of Histon Cambridgeshire and husband to Ethel Jane Pauley nee North of Clay Street, Histon, Cambridgeshire

Frederick and Jane had three children Maud, William plus another. He had one brother and one sister Mary and Ellis

In 1911 Frederick was working as a bricklayer

The regimental Chaplain wrote to Ethel saying ‘I am writing a letter which I am afraid will bring very great sorrow to you and your home. That your husband died of his wounds on 26th September. The battalion was in action at the time, and your husband went up with a party trying to get rations through to those in the front line. He had not gone very far when a shell burst right on the party and he was killed.  Those who were with him tell me he can have suffered no pain.  I was able to lay him to rest in a military cemetery not far away.

Your husband had only just returned from working for the Engineers. Pte Pauley had been attached to the Royal Engineers. He was a prominent member of the Old Histon Rangers Football Club.

Pte Pauley left effects of £0 16s 0d to his wife Ethel Jane

Pte Frederick William Pauley is remembered with honour at Voormezeele Enclosures No. 1 and No. 2
